Dogs hiding under blanket

Many animals find fireworks scary and unfortunately, there’s not often any warning of private fireworks displays locally. We’ve put together a list of things that might help keep your furry friend content this firework season…

+ Consider taking your dog for a walk earlier on in the day + ideally, before it gets dark to avoid times when fireworks are likely to be set off. + Try to keep cats indoors once it gets dark too to avoid them becoming stressed by loud noises + Create a cosy safe space for cats and dogs. Kit it out with food and water bowls, favourite toys and blankets and maybe even a hiding place they can retreat to if they feel they need to. This safe space should be in the quietest room in your house with windows shut and curtains drawn. + Put music on the TV to help drown out the sound of any fireworks + For extra nervous animals, we may be able to prescribe pheromones - call us well in advance to discuss your options. + Make sure microchip details are up to date. This could help reunite you with your pet should they become startled and attempt to escape or run away from loud noises. + For smaller furries, consider bringing outdoor pets inside, and cover any hutches with a towel or blanket.

Remember, we’re here to help, so call us if you need any advice on how to make this firework season as stress-free for your pet as possible!
