The importance of microchipping
15th May, 2026Every year, thousands of owners are reunited with their pets thanks to microchipping.
Microchipping is a simple, permanent way to protect your pet if they ever go missing. At Orchard Vets, we offer quick, affordable microchipping services for cats, dogs and other small animals. Our experienced team ensures the process is safe and stress-free for both pets and owners.
Why Microchip your pet?
- It is a legal requirement for dogs over 8 weeks of age and cats over 20 weeks of age to be microchipped.
- Microchipping is a safe and permanent method of identification with no ongoing costs.
- Every week, many pets are reunited with their owners because of their "chip". Your information is uploaded to a central database, which is easy for you to access to update details.
How it works
A tiny chip, the size of a grain of rice, is inserted under your pet's skin. This chip holds an ID number unique to your pets. Once your pet has been microchipped, your contact details are uploaded to a central database so that welfare charities and vets can contact you should your pet go missing. The procedure is quick, safe, and only takes a minute.
Microchipping is free for members of our Pal for Life Pet health scheme.
