International Cat Day
06th August, 2026Founded in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IWAF), International Cat Day is celebrated every year on the 8th August and reminds us of all the positive ways in which cats enhance our lives.
Cats have held a special place in our hearts for thousands of years, and it’s no wonder why – they’re smart, independent, affectionate and playful – and owning a cat can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and improve mental health.
International Cat Day serves as a great reminder to appreciate our feline friends, but also highlights the number of stray and feral cats that live on the streets without access to food, shelter or medical care.
Not all cats are lucky enough to live pampered lives, so make sure you give yours an extra cuddle tonight for good measure.
