Hints & tips for keeping cool this summer

04th July, 2025

Summer is a great time for outdoor fun, but the rising temperatures can be tough on our furry friends. Unlike humans, pets can’t sweat to cool down, so it's important to help them beat the heat and stay safe. Whether you’re at home, in the garden, or heading out on an adventure, here are some practical tips to keep your pet cool this summer.

Hydration is Essential

Make sure your pet always has access to clean, fresh water. Consider placing multiple water bowls around your home and garden. You can also drop in a few ice cubes to keep things cooler for longer – some pets even enjoy chewing on them!

Plan Walks Wisely

Avoid walking your dog during the hottest part of the day. Early mornings and late evenings are the best times for outdoor activity. Don’t forget to test the pavement – if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!

Create a Cool Space

Provide your pet with a shady, well-ventilated area to relax in. Indoors, cooling mats work wonders. Outdoors, provide shelter from direct sun using umbrellas or natural shade like trees and bushes.

Watch for Heatstroke

Signs of heatstroke include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse. If you notice any of these, contact us immediately – heatstroke can be life-threatening.

Cool Treats and Play

Frozen pet-safe treats or toys filled with ice-cold goodies are a great way to help them chill out while having fun.

Final Tip: Never Leave Pets in Parked Cars

Even with the windows cracked, cars heat up quickly and can be fatal to pets in minutes.

With just a little planning, you can keep your pets safe, cool, and comfortable all summer long. They’ll thank you for it with wagging tails and happy purrs!
