Myxomatosis

This is the well-know virus infection of rabbits and is passed on by fleas and mosquitoes. It causes facial swelling and blindness. Death usually follows within twelve days. Some pet rabbits can recover with intensive care followed by good nursing and treatment but it may take many months.

Virus Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD).

This virus disease was first reported in China in the mid 1980s and rapidly spread to Europe and the UK. VHD is passed on via saliva and nasal secretions. It can be transmitted without direct contact, such as through insects. Many animals suffer sudden death due to convulsions and suffocation; some have a milder illness and recover.
